We are very excited to have Hungarian born Bobbi Fournier back for a second talk on Hungary. Bobbi will give an overview of the politics in Hungary after WWII and what led to the uprising in 1956. The uprising was an almost spontaneous revolt by the Hungarian people against the ruling Communist Party and the Soviet policies that were crippling post-war Hungary. Around 2,500 Hungarians died in the course of the Revolution. 200,000 fled to the West in the aftermath of the struggle, including Bobbi and her family.
She will discuss the trust issues that developed within many families, what it was like to live under communist rule and how she escaped from that life at age 14.
All welcome, refreshments served.
