Garden Training Opportunity with Barbara Murphy
We are so excited that we have the opportunity to once again work with Barbara Murphy and the newly formed non-profit Gardeners Growing Healthy Communities (GGHC). This coming summer will be our third year of having a vegetable garden that supplies our local Sweden food pantry with fresh produce. Gardening with friends for the purpose of helping communities, makes gardening that much more fun. GGHC is a new, grassroots effort committed to growing, harvesting and distributing fresh garden produce to those with limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
In conjunction with GGHC we will offer an 8-week gardening course on Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 3:30 pm at the library. Cost for the course is $100. In addition to learning valuable gardening skills, such as building healthy garden soil, pest management and season extension, training participants will become part of the library’s community garden and help grow, harvest and distribute throughout the summer.
To learn more and apply, please got to GGHC’s website, www.gardernersgrowinghealthycommunities.org and click on the training tab at the top of the page. There you will find the course agenda as well as the application. If you need an application and agenda mailed to you, please call Barbara Murphy at 890-1626 or contact the library.
Our library has a limited amount of scholarships available. Please contact Rosie or Anna if you would like to apply for one.
