We are very excited to present Maurice Habimfura and his troupe partner, Patrick for a Rwandan Drum and Dance Demonstration! Maurice and Patrick are both members of “Ikirenga Cy'Intore”, a Rwandan drum and dance troupe based in East Bayside, Maine.  This group seeks to educate and preserve traditional Rwandan dance culture, which is not traditionally written down and is becoming lost due to the Rwandan Genocide, diaspora, and modern cultural shifts.
Members of the group were Rwandan State Dance Champions before coming to Portland. 

Performers wear traditional Rwandan costume and play on giant handmade drums, while others dance the scenes of hunting, fishing, and other traditional activities. The men, women, and sometimes children take turns depicting different aspects of Rwandan life.

Maurice and Patrick will do a performance and then teach a few dance moves for those that are brave in the audience!
