Writing Group
The CHML Writing Group meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 1 to 2:30pm. It is a friendly group for all styles and types of writing. Some write poetry, some short stories, others memoirs, diaries, novels or plays. Each week a different member leads the group. We inspire and learn from each other as we read what we are working on. Feel free to join this fun and welcoming group in the community room downstairs in the library.
If you would like to attend by Zoom, please email thedesk@hobbslibrary.org in advance so that the Zoom meeting may be launched.

In-Conversation: Jen Dupree and Kathy Bain
Slow Motion is both a heartfelt tribute to an extraordinary friendship and an awakening to disability rights and advocacy. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, these stories reveal how Marcel has navigated prejudice, medical dismissal, and an ableist culture with grace and determination— and how Jen learned to see the world through entirely new eyes.
“I felt not so much inspired by this story as welcomed into it.”
–Monica Wood, author of “How to Read a Book” and “When We Were the Kennedys”

Page Turners Book Discussion
All patrons and friends of the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library are welcome to join Page Turners, the Library’s book discussion group. Our September selection is George Saunders’s award-winning novel Lincoln in the Bardo (2017) Experimental in form, the novel is set in the wake of Abraham Lincoln’s tragic loss of his beloved son Willie, but it engages a large cast of characters who are hovering between life and death to explore deep questions about love, loss, and reconciliation.
In October we will begin a literary exploration of Russian literature through some short readings by nineteenth-century writers in the age of Pushkin and Lermontov. Our selection for November and December will be Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina (1878). If you are joining us to discuss this magnificent novel, the translation by Rosamund Bartlett is an ideal choice.
Page Turners welcomes new members maintains a discussion list through which members receive background information and discussion questions for each book. Please contact Sue Lanser (925-6244 or lanser@brandeis.edu) if you would like to learn more about the group or wish to join our mailing list. Description:
Learn how to exercise properly for weight loss, muscle toning, increased energy and stamina. Weight loss can be difficult to navigate, mainly due to conflicting voices, methods, and opinions in the health industry. In this exercise class, you will learn which exercises to do, to maximize your results while minimizing the risk of injury. 1:1 private training can be expensive, while large classes can be difficult for people to learn. Small group personal training is the best of both worlds, as its less expensive than 1:1 training, while still maintaining the boutique feeling of personal training sessions. Come ready to exercise!
