Page Turners Book Discussion

  • Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library 227 Main Street Lovell, ME 04051 United States (map)

All patrons and friends of the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library are welcome to join Page Turners, the Library’s book discussion group. Our reading list for the spring has changed somewhat. Our April 14 selection will now be Kazuo Ishiguro’s masterpiece The Remains of the Day, in which the quiet story of a road trip undertaken by the elderly butler of Darlington Hall brilliantly opens out both to the history of England during the rise of fascism and world war and to a personal story of unrealized love.

On May 5 we will turn to Samantha Harvey’s lyrical and Booker Prizewinning short novel Orbital (2024), which focuses on six characters orbiting the earth in a space station. In June we revisit eighteenth-century Scotland through Sir Walter Scott’s novel Waverley (1814). We are currently meeting on Zoom but often hold hybrid gatherings in the warm season.

Page Turners maintains a discussion list through which members receive background information and preliminary discussion questions for each book selection. Please contact Sue Lanser (925-6244 or lanser@brandeis.edu) if you would like to learn more about the group or wish to join our mailing list.
