Page Turners Book Discussion

  • Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library 227 Main Street Lovell, ME 04051 United States (map)

All patrons and friends of the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library are welcome to join the Page Turners, the Library’s book discussion group. We are currently meeting online.

In January 2022, we are embarking on a special four-part series:  we will explore the French Revolution through the lens of one lengthy modern novel accompanied in each session by brief documents from the period itself.  Our focal novel is A Place of Greater Safety (1992), written by Hilary Mantel, the acclaimed author of the Wolf Hall trilogy.  A Place of Greater Safety can readily be found through Minerva, on Kindle, or in paperback; for January 10, we will be reading Parts I and II.  In May, we will focus on the Haitian Revolution and the age of Napoleon; in June we depart from our series on the Age of Revolution to discuss Virginia Woolf’s modernist novel To the Lighthouse (1927).

Page Turners maintains a discussion list for our members, at which you can receive advance background information and questions in preparation for our discussions.  If you would like further information about this group or wish to attend an upcoming meeting, please contact Sue Lanser at lanser@brandeis.edu or 925-6244.
